About Me

Wednesday 20th April 2011

Well I've finally done it in just under 4.5 hours ! It was an extremely hot day for running, was surprised how difficult it was to run in such a crowd the whole time. My feet do not look good most of my toenails are going black ! Enjoyed the day though & yes I would do it again as would like to be quicker !!

Wednesday 13th April 2011

Ran 10 miles on Sunday , last run yest only 4 miles ! That's it now , not long to go 3 days , can't wait for the day , getting nervous but want to enjoy it ! Eating lots of carbs ! Weather at the moment looks like it might be hottish on the day , hope is not too hot. A big thank you to everyone who has not only sponsored me & put up with me rambling on about running all the time; patients, work colleagues , friends & family. Hope I will do you all proud !
Have been reducing my mileage now as supposedly this what you have to do so your body is in good shape for the big day ! 10 & 5 mile runs still in the week but 16 miles last Sunday & 14 miles yesterday. Funny enough found yesterday's run hard for some reason !
Not long to go now, getting nervous as want a good time ie under 4 hours, not sure I will chieve that ! Hope it's not too hot !! My running number is 34717, basically I'm pretty much at the back !!
Has been a hard week this week, left foot hurting slightly now, hopefully the anti-imflammatories will help with that as well. Last long run today before tapering down the distances until the big day! Found it difficult to get out of bed at 6am this morning as didn't sleep very well, I was ok once I started running and managed to do 23 miles at a slow / steady pace just to get the time on my feet. Tried some energy jelly blocks every 30 mins which seemed to help by increasing my energy. Although it did take about 15 mins to open the packet as I was running along but worth it in the end. Wierd though trying to run and eat at the same time !

Sunday 13th March 2011

Did 22 miles today, wasn't too bad although the last 2 miles were painful on my feet. Took an energy drink which seems help a little. Occaisional pain from old shin splints, anti-inflammatories are helping.

Wednesday 9th March 2011

I have been very ill with a stomach bug for a week so haven't done any running since 2nd March. Did a steady run for 5 miles tonight, felt ok. Usual gym tomorrow, 10 miles Friday then 22 miles Sunday.

Sunday 27th February 2011

Felt ok this past week, ran 22 miles today. Oh how 2 miles makes a big difference, I was very slow on the last 2 miles, my feet were extremely sore and my legs were doing their own thing towards the end!

Sunday 21st February 2011

Ran 20 miles today and took a different energy drink, felt run went well today, it took me 3:07.

Friday 18th February 2011

Has been very difficult getting myself motivated to go to the gym twice this week as well as running, 5 miles on Wednesday and 12 today. Think that run on Sunday took a lot out of me, ive been tired all week. Time to eat more carbs I think!

Sunday 13th February 2011

Ran 18 miles today, found it quite difficult towards the end. Tried an energy drink today, not sure if it really helped, just seemed to be thirstier.
Existing blister healing slowly, all plastered up and new socks insitu ready to go. Did 16 miles today but was only meant to do 14 according to my schedule but because of a detour across fields and woodland due to fellow runner Steve ended up doing 16 miles and got covered in mud, was not happy! But hey there's always a silver linning to every cloud, the socks worked a treat!
Friday 28th January 2011

Since training for the marathon, I'm finding it strange how people don't want to move over on the pavement to let you pass by when they can see you coming. Maybe they think I can fly! It has been very cold lately, had to wear 4 layers today. Went on a mission to find a pair of socks that will hopefully prevent any further blisters this afternoon. Have bought a pair of twin skin socks and at £9 a pair they had better work when I go for my long run on Sunday!
Sunday 23rd Jan did 16.5 miles, should of been 18 but couldn't manage it as yet another toenail nearly off and some horrible blisters. Have included a photo as wouldn't want you all to miss out! By the way that was trying with 2 pairs of socks and lots of plasters this time!
In to full training mode now doing 30 to 40 miles per week whatever the weather! Couple of sore toes and blisters appearing, my poor feet. Hope I can keep this up until the marathon week.
I've been on some cold runs lately, have been trying to work out how many layers are sufficient without getting too cold or too hot. There has been a lot of trial and error, came back one day from a 10 mile run and it took me 15 minutes to defrost my arms and hands. Good 11 mile run today, had three layers on top with two pairs of gloves, didn't get too cold this time but oh was it lovely to get in the bath when I got back!
